How the budget affects benefits for parents.
From April 2007, the child element of Child Tax Credit will increase by £80 to £1845 a year. In April 2008 this will increase by a further £150 to £2080 ayear.
From April 2008 the income threshold at which working tax credit is received in full will increase by £1200 to £6420 a year.
The weekly rate of child benefit for the eldest child will rise to £20 in April 2010.
From April 2009 every mum-to-be will become eligible for child benefit from week 29 of their pregnancy.
From this April paid maternity leave will be extended from 6 to 9 months.
The right to request flexible working is currently available to parents with children under six this will be extended to carers from April.
This budget offers free childcare places for up to 50,000 workless parents undertaking training, to enable more parents to more back into work.
